Sometimes, dogs find their own enrichment!
Here’s a great example of a dog using an unintended tool in a unique way for his own enrichment. This guy is having a great time (and so are his owners)!
Stop saying, “That’s not for dogs!”
When owners do not feel constrained by perceived requirements (“That’s not for dogs!” “He can’t do that!”) dogs feel more free to explore and can learn to do some amazing things. This curious, bold dog who felt enough confidence to explore his world learned to pick up a shovel and do something he clearly finds to be very rewarding! Good for him!
How do you think this dog learned to pick up the shovel in the first place? If you wanted your dog to do something similar, what could you do? What problems might you have to overcome?
